Only for geeks who love keyboard shortcuts

I just bought Write 2 and I have just thrown it into the trash can. The creator of Write 2 loves keyboard shortcuts. I hate them. There’s no way I can remember hundred of keyboard shortcuts (I use dozen of apps on my Mac) - and I wouldn’t even want to try, it’s so old fashioned. It’s pre-Mac in its approach. (I remember Word Perfect from the 90’s, where you had to use Alt-F8, Cmd-F6, etc, for various functions). The create of Write 2 loves keyboard shortcuts to the point that if you don’t use them, the software works poorly. That’s why I threw it in the trash.

Very Nice App

This is a great word processing app with lots of features and at a great price. Highly recommend getting this one.

Very Nice

I was looking for a word processor app that that small, fast and featured what most users want in an app. i finally find it. Write 2 does everyting i need and does it really well and also keep compatibility to MS word, pages…. Great work!!!!

Finally!

I was really dissapointed when I found this application, and it was everything I had looked for. Everything was perfect except for the margin bug that was fixed in this version. If youre looking for an application that you just want to type on, but also have all the necessary features this is the application for you. It takes seconds to start up and theres no ribbon or silly cluttered top bar. It also opens and can save to .doc by default, something pages will probably never do.

Great for writing school papers!

Its really exactly what I needed. I needed something easy, fast, (cheap) for writing university papers. The one thing I found this one has (I bought a couple other writing apps, like Go Word) that others do not, is header/ footers. Which I need for keeping a clean looking paper and to add in class name, my name, etc. Also super easy to double space the paper. If I needed something that did EVERYTHING it would probably cost more then $10. And I dont need that. So this is great. Highly recommend. Also on a side note, really good help and tips offered. When I typed, "Headers Footers" in the help bar, it pulled down the menu that contained it and had a big arrow pointing to it. Genius! thanks!

saving documents

Just purchased this yesterday but have had to shut down my computer 2 times because the pinwheel just spins when I ask it to save. It will also not change the name of a document. I spent 1/2 hour on the phone with apple customer support and all is well with everything except this program. Help

Texteditor

This editor is awesome, i like it ˆˆ

Very Slick, great potential

This app launches way faster than MS Word or even Pages. I love the iCloud support and the slick interface. The simple one-click PDF button is also a time saver. There are a few quirks: * Theres a cool feature where the paragraph you are in is highlighted, but sometimes the highlighting gets stuck on one paragraph until you restart. * You cant edit an existing style, you have to delete it and make it from scratch * Theres no viewing mode that suppresses the gaps that indicate page breaks * There are check boxes in the Style menu; I have no idea what they do

Support

Apparently there is no longer support for this application. Ive had some kind of strange spacing problem with it. After hitting return it jumps down about 4 or 5 lines. Im not sure how to fix the problem but have received no response to my request for help.

Write 2

This is without a dobut one of the all time best apps ive ever come across. To say it simply works would be an understatment. As someone who has developed and shipped software before the apps author is one of the greats. One click to launch, one click to go full screen and just Write. Ive stopped using all other word processors. I now use this for everything that requires some writing and then its cut and paste into whatever app needs it. Im not sure how you can go wrong buying this app. Its simply amazing.

Straightforward word processor for easy writing

Write 2 supports all the features necessary for everyday writing, without distractions or confusion. Ive been using it for a few days now and its impressive how well it supports productivity. I should also mention that the author responded promptly to a question I sent via the built-in Support option. I expect this will be my "go-to" word processor for a long time to come.

Not Word but very useful

This is a basic word processing program but with the necessary adds: pick font, spacing, alignment, etc. But its most useful feature is that you can save as a .doc and then edit and polish in Word if you need to. That feature alone makes it a good buy.

Nice compact word processor

I started using this program to write entries for my blog. The availability of fonts from within the program and the ability to add links while writing are extremely useful. This will be my go-to app for some time I, too, have experienced the phenomenon others mentioned where hitting return results in the next entered text to appear several blank lines below the previous text. It turns out that this is a page break and not a glitch. Most programs give some visual cue when this occurs—a faint dotted line, for instance—and Ive suggested the developer add this feature so new users wont be confused, as I was. I can recommend this program for people who need a light-weight word processors packed with a lot of nice features and no bloat.

I Remember WriteNow, and This Captures Its Spirit

I loved WriteNow. It was fast and simple and didnt get in the way. Ive been looking for something to replace it for years. I thought Pages might be that app, and while its very nice, Write 2 feels right and costs about a third of Pages as a standalone. If youre sick of Office bloatware and want a good, fast word processor at a very reasonable price, this is it. Its really hard to complain!

good buy it has alot to offer

Its a very good app but one of the downfalls i have noticed is that it tends to stop working at one point. It freezes and then you need to force close and this has happend to me many times and sometimes things like this shouldnt happen especially when doing and essay due next morning not being able to save any of the work because it froze on you my acutall rate is 2 in half a say this because if it wasnt for the problems im having it would be a four great i dought its my laptop its brand new retina and by running certain benchmarks i cant be my mac but maby it will work on yours just hopping they fix the glitch ….

Cant disable page break view (ie no "normal" view)

Ive been looking for a native RTF editor to replace my beloved iA Writer, since my editors work directly with RTF. The process of exporting from iA Writer as RTF and bringing back into iA when they edit is a drag. I found and loved Write 2, but I noticed that it ALWAYS displays page breaks and does so with a *big* white space. I write for magazines and websites for a living, so a page break based on the paper loaded in my printer doesnt make any sense. I contacted the developer via his site and asked where the setting was to turn off this view, in other words to make it work like the Normal view in Word. His reply was that Write 2 is a RTF editor so displays page breaks. Since RTF has nothing to do with displaying page breaks, I sent him screen shots of TextEdit and WriteRoom displaying the same document without showing the page break. He replied "show me that same thing in Pages." Pages, of course is not an RTF editor and there are hundreds of people complaining in threads on Apples formus about the inablity to turn off page break display in Pages. Its fine for a developer to not want to implmenent a feature. It just means that the application isnt suitable for me as a user. Its very strange for him to claim that the issue is something thats not at all related to his reluctance to add this feature.

Write 2 Hangs Up

Often the app hangs up—freezes— and the only way to unfreeze it is to Quit from icon on the dock. Of course your document is lost. Stick with Bean or the newest Pages. I’m sorry I bought Write 2. $8.00 down the drain.

Works for me

Since Apple is bent on dumbing down Pages like theyre dumbing down everything else, I took a gander at Write 2 as a lightweight editor without the overhead of Pages and the lack of basic features in Textedit. It does both of those things very well. I would like to see a few more features added in the future, such as the disable page break feature mentioned by another reviewer. As it stands now, this app is a lot of value for the price.

Margins go Haywire

Everytime I open a document the margins end up all screwed up. The program sets arbitrary and random margins and does not save any portion of outline formatting that I have done. As a law student who needs a working outline format on a budget this is not the way to go and has turned out to be very disappointing. I even try to reset the margins and sometimes it will correct the document until the next time I open it, but most times it will not change anything.

Only what it needs to be and no more

What a gift it was finding this application. I have long bemoaned the fact that we dont have something simple and effective in the way that, say, MS Word 95 was. More features does not equal "better," and can truly interfere with the writers ability to communicate. I give Write 2 high marks. Have not experienced the problems other reviewers have. Its a simple, friendly interface, and it will generate documents that are more complicated than anything I will ever need. A word processing application should be a tool. A good tool doesnt remind you of its presence; it helps you do the job and you shouldnt have to think about the tool. After the nightmare of having to use MS Word professionally and deal with all of its bizarre "features," Write 2 is liberating. More apps like this app, please.
