Write 2 - The word processor in simple, fast, and powerful App Reviews

Goodbye glitchy MS Word!

I’ve spent the last week researching and trying alternative writing apps after a very frustrating day of attempting to be super-productive only to be foiled by the eternal freezing/crashing/glitchiness of MS Word for Mac. I’ve been a professional copywriter for ten years and crank out about 5k words of copy for clients a day. In my business, formatting matters, word count matters, and efficiency rules the day. Word has always been the standard word processor for my profession, but I have no idea why. Does Word have more “features”? Sure. Do I ever use those features? Nope. Write 2 now holds the place of honor as the most often used app in my dock. I wanted an app that supported .rtf, had access to basic and oft used formatting tools without opening a new window, showed word count, and had an appealing UI and look. Write 2 fulfills all those requirements. Technically it’s not a replacement for Word, but that’s OK. It replaces all the most-used functions of Word for me. I’ve had no problems with glitches or crashes and the app opens files quickly. Well done, Michael.

It’s my go to word processor now

It doesn’t get too difficult to understand or get glitchy, it actually is very simple and easy to use. It is very polished. It is fast and clean overall. The autocorrect mimics that of iOS. However, there was one thing I think they could fix. For some reason, when you first create the document, you can expand the page to be full screen, but once you open it up again, it stays as a little rectangle in the middle with a lot of bordering. I never have any other problems with it. It doesn’t cost that much money, only about 5 bucks. Which is good if you use it a lot, like I do. I feel like if you want to handle really large documents and research or manuscrips and whatnot, go for something a little more sophisticated. But for anybody who wants something quick and simple, buy this! Who needs all those bizarre features.

Not Recommended

I am looking for a simple word processor that works. This is not that word processor. I imported a .docx file and the file is unusable. I tried several other files and things did not change. Left justify actually works the opposite—it right justifies. Just cannot trust the application to do what you want. I would not recommend this application.

Needs basic features

I can’t find page numbering and it doesn’t support .docx files.

terrible

For some reason this app will not save embedded links. This is frustrating and time consuming when I have to rewrite something multiple times because the embedded links disapear. It also doesn’t seem to matter what format I save it in, the links disappear. If you have to work with people who use windows/word, this is not the app for you.

What more could I need in a word processing app? NOTHING.

I have been trying to find a good writer’s wp app for years. I am a writer, not a CFO who needs cells, boffo charts, meaningless and obfuscating mashups of trend lines, algorhythms, and whatever passes as ‘business writing’ these days. And I finally found it. Write 2. Learn to be a better writer, and your own editor. Simple interface, yet extremely powerful. I can’t believe they sell it for as little as they do now. My guess is that as its popularity grows, so will the price. There’s nothing more for me to say. Just buy it and relish in its value to writers. You won’t regret it: you’l be sending me letters of thanks for decades to come…or something like that. You know where to find me. I didn’t run this through the app, so forgive my sloppy writing.

OK for short letters

All kinds of strange things start happening with documenrt over a few pages, especially when pasting text. Very frustrating. Mail (in el Capitan) with all of its problems is more reliable in that aspect.

Great at first but problems with latest update.

I loved this app initially and stopped using Apple’s Pages altogether. But now every time I open a document created in Write 2, the margins are changed, random widths, different every time. Every time I open it I get different margin widths. Margins are set at default. Have contacted the author who replied the first time but not the second. No fix yet. Can’t really use the app this way. Would rate it at 5 stars had this problem not come up. Now gets two since I really can’t use it. Will update review if there is a fix soon. Update for Version 2.5.2. Random margin changes have not been fixed. Drop my rating to one star at this point and do not recommend spending the money for this app.
